Fall Term 10 Week Beginner Sewing Course

Join us in The Sewing Room for a fun 10 week course where students will learn to use a sewing machine, including sewing safety, as well as basic hand sewing stitches. 

Class Time: Tuesdays starting 9/17/24

Ages 7-11: 9:30am-11am

Ages 12-17: 12pm-1:30pm

Class Length: 90 Minutes

Cost: $250 per student. Payment can be made in full, or a $50 deposit can be made to reserve your spot with the remainder due prior to the first class. 

Sewing machines and notions provided. Fabric for projects is provided by The Sewing Room through week 6, but students are welcome to bring in their own fabric for any projects. Students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine if they have one.

Classes Schedule

Week 1 (9/17): Intro to using a sewing machine

Week 2 (9/24): Straight stitch practice, Book Pillow or Doll Sleeping Bag

Week 3 (10/1): Straight stitch practice, Book Bag or Trick or Treat Bag

Week 4 (10/8): Sewing Curves, Happy Ghost Stuffie or Candy Corn Pillow

Week 5 (10/15): Hand Sewing Techniques, Mini Stuffie Key Chains

Week 6 (10/29): Design & create your own stuffie (machine & hand sewing)

Week 7 (11/5): Zippers!, Zippered pencil or makeup bag

Week 8 (11/12): Intro to woven clothes, PJ Pants/Shorts

Week 9 (11/19): Intro to knit (stretchy) fabric, Beanies or Headbands

Week 10 (12/3): Class to decide final project depending on interests

No refunds will be provided for missed classes. There will be two make up opportunities offered on 10/22 & 12/10 at regular class time. You are also welcome to come for open studio time on these days.
